Thomco was founded in December of 1977 by Roy S. Thompson. In 1979, Greg Thompson, CPCU, ARM, joined the firm, as its first full-time employee following two years in New York with Marsh and McLennan. Greg has served as the Chief Executive Officer for Thomco since that time.

AFDS is a department within Thomco that handles in home daycare liability coverage.

What is the A.M Best rating of the carrier? [top]
AFDS carriers are A rated or higher.

Who do I make my check payable to? [top]
Please make checks payable to AFDS.

Can I finance my premium? [top]
AFDS accepts only Thomco Financing with 40% down and nine (9) installments.

How do I get a Certificate of Insurance? [top]
We can mail, fax, or email the certificate to you.

What is the $60.00 membership fee and do I pay it every year? [top]
The membership fee is due and payable annually. The insurance is through what is known as a Risk Purchasing Group that puts together an insurance program specifically for a group of like exposures, such as in-home daycare providers. The membership fee gives you access to the program and is included in the quote you receive.

How do I add additional insureds and is there an additional charge? [top]
Additional insureds can be added at any time during the policy period. To have one added, simply send in a written request with the additional insured’s name and address along with the fee (the fee for this is $25.00 plus any state and county taxes for your area). We will send an endorsement page to you reflecting the change to the policy.

Do you offer Automobile Liability Insurance? [top]
We do not currently offer auto coverage.

Do you offer Homeowners Insurance? [top]
We do not currently offer homeowners coverage.

How do I know how much insurance I need? [top]
We will pay on your behalf all sums up to the applicable Limit of Liability that you are legally obligated to pay for bodily injury, property damage, or personal injury resulting from an occurrence arising out of your activities as a child care provider, provided:

  • The occurrence takes place during the policy period specified in the declarations.

  • The occurrence, if known, is immediately reported to the company or its designated representatives.

What coverage does most homeowner’s policies not provide? [top]
We cover what homeowner’s policies exclude. The typical homeowner’s policy provides liability coverage for personal exposure only. Therefore, your in-home child care business is excluded. AFDS provides coverage not only for most of your normal liability exposures, but also for allegations of sexual abuse.

  • The standard homeowner’s policy (HO-3) excludes liability coverage for family daycare activities.

  • The premiums are affordable.

  • Peace of mind.

How do I cancel my policy? [top]
A written request must be submitted including your policy number and the date you want the policy to terminate. Refunds will be mailed out on the 15th day of the month following the processed cancelation.
